Our goal is to make everyone who comes into our office feel as comfortable as they possibly can.

Can You Get Gum Disease from Sharing a Hookah?
Posted on 10/5/2020 by David Mugford
Can You Get Gum Disease from Sharing a Hookah? It has been drilled in our heads since we were young that smoking is bad for your health. Some of our parents, relatives, acquaintances, and even adverts have tried to get this message across in every way possible. Besides the obvious risks we know like emphysema or lung cancer, smoking can pose a high risk to the gum, causing gum disease.

Smoking is Dangerous, Let Alone When Shared

Many other alternatives to cigarettes have come up in recent years and people have adopted them. One of these alternatives is the hookah, which is a kind of water pipe where shisha tobacco is smoked. Its taste is must sweeter compared to the usual cigarettes. This can even have different kinds of flavors. A lot of people are under the perception that the hookah is much safer than cigarettes, but it is not. Much worse is the fact that people share the hookah during these smoking sessions. Sharing a hookah is the culture in some cases as people are used to smoking it together. However, this can pose a higher risk to the gum than even smoking it alone.

[[[Why? You May Wonder…]]]
Well, you never know the health issues that people around you have. When it comes to oral health, everyone has their own ways of taking care of their mouth. From sharing a hookah, you may contract a gum infection from someone else. This may lead to a gum disease that may cause a lot of damage to your gum and your teeth if not dealt with on time. Toxins from the gum disease bacteria may weaken your jaw bone and affect your gum, leading to tooth loss. Much worse, gum disease may lead to cancer and Alzheimer's disease. We must, therefore, be careful and be cautious about sharing the hookah. Contact us for more details.
